Global Fast Food

Fast Food is everywhere. KSA has nearly all the same restaurants we do. There are two separate entrances. You have to enter by one door if you are a single male or in a group of males, and in the family entrance if you are with your family. Women are not allowed to be out in public without a male relative or their husband if they are married.

did you go into one of the fastfood resterauntes
if so which line did you go in?
You were with a group of men and woman, and you were not related to the woman.
Did you go in just by yourself? Or do they let visitors go in any line they want?

Rick,
I am a single American woman thinking of taking a job in an int'l school in Jeddah. I read your comments about wmen not being allowed in public alone---does that include foreigners? Can not even a group or expat women go out and about, or must we always have a male as part of the group

Sally,

That does include foreign women, yes. I'd talk to other ex-pats and teachers here who could fill you in with greater detail. Foreign women are not expected to follow Saudi custom quite as strictly, but I'm not certain a woman could move around unrestricted.

Alexa and Meghan,

Thanks for your posts. Read the rest of the blog and your questions will be answered.

I didn't eat any fast food on my trip, I just took lots of pictures. I did order a Fanta orange pop from McDonald's, though, because I felt awkward walking in there and taking pictures of the menu without ordering anything.

I live in Jeddah for the last 16 years. You don't need a male relative to go out. We frequently go to the mall restaurants etc with friends.

They are not as strict as they use to be.
